Mauro Icardi has hit back after the Argentine transport ministry used a social media clip of him driving to announce a sanction.

The ministry’s account on X posted a video showing him at the wheel with actress Eugenia “La China” Suarez, with no seatbelt and his upper body out of the window. According to L'Équipe, the ministry, led by Martin Marinucci, turned it into a road-safety warning, said the 33-year-old was driving without a licence, and imposed a preventive suspension until 2099. It added that any future licence would follow an assessment of his fitness to drive.

Icardi responded that an Argentine licence must be surrendered when the holder has a European one. He said he holds an Italian licence valid until 2029 and described the move as a ploy to gain media attention.

He then addressed the ministry directly, using coarse language to tell officials to fix the roads and improve traffic. He added that they should stop spending time on social media, stop lying and get back to work.

The former Inter Milan forward is currently a free agent after leaving Galatasaray in the summer.
