Benfica have been linked with Mauro Icardi and could pursue a deal if a striker departs this window. Vangelis Pavlidis and Franjo Ivanovic are attracting interest, so contingency planning is under way.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedullà, Benfica are said to have made contact over the Galatasaray forward, whose contract is nearing its end with the champions of Türkiye. Talks to renew have not progressed, which could make a free transfer possible.

Icardi, 33, is viewed as a realistic option only if there is an outgoing in attack. Juventus sounded him out in January, but did not go as far as opening negotiations.

He joined Galatasaray on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in 2022/23, scoring 23 goals and supplying eight assists in 26 matches. That return prompted a €10 million deal to make the move permanent.

This season he played 47 games for Galatasaray, including 31 in the Turkish league, 10 in the Champions League, four in the Turkish Cup and two in the Turkish Super Cup. Across 2,093 minutes he registered 16 goals and three assists and is valued at €4 million.
