Maximilian Beier's close-range finish gave Borussia Dortmund a 1-0 win at Stuttgart, preserving the Bundesliga's only perfect record and sending Niko Kovac's side top by two points.

As reported by Get German Football News, the first half offered little goalmouth action. Dortmund saw more of the ball and territory, yet Fabian Bredlow was rarely troubled, while Gregor Kobel denied Deniz Undav and Ermedin Demirovic.

After the restart the pattern persisted until Kovac introduced Jobe Bellingham and the returning Konstantinos Karetsas on 60 minutes, a switch that tilted the contest.

On 70 minutes Karetsas forced Dortmund's first shot on target. Moments later Bellingham delivered low from the right and Beier turned in to break the deadlock.

Neither side hit their best levels, but Dortmund managed a professional away win in classic Kovac fashion.

Beier, omitted from Jürgen Klopp's 44-man Germany squad for the international break, responded with the decisive goal. Used recently as a left-wing back, he operated behind Serhou Guirassy here and was lively down the left with a match-high 10 touches in the box.

With Karetsas back and Fabio Silva in form, Beier may again be asked to fill the left-wing back role.
