Maya Le Tissier makes history

Manchester United’s captain has been a key part of the club for the past four years now and it is hard to imagine the club without Maya Le Tissier involved.

Over the weekend the defender achieved an impressive milestone with her 70th consecutive start.

After her 70th start in a row, Le Tissier tied the league record for most consecutive starts by an outfield player with former Leicester City star Aileen Whelan.

With a start this weekend against Chelsea, Le Tissier would take the outright record for herself.

The England international’s achievement is even more impressive considering her record for United. The captain has been involved in every single competitive fixture for the club since joining from Brighton in 2022.

Although she is only young, Le Tissier is already on track for legendary status with United having made such a consistent start to her career.

The vastly experienced WSL star has already made history in the league prior to this milestone. Le Tissier was the youngest player to ever reach 100 WSL appearances at just 22-years-old.

United boss Marc Skinner compared his superstar to Lucy Bronze earlier this month after making her 100th appearance for the Red Devils.

Le Tissier’s international troubles

While Le Tissier has been the captain for United over the past three years she has still struggled to get into the England team.

Even with 70 consecutive league appearances under her belt, Le Tissier isn’t favoured by Sarina Wiegman.

The England manager started the likes of Alex Greenwood and Leah Williamson over Le Tissier, who wasn’t even given a chance off the bench this summer.

Although she was called up to the Euro 2025 squad the United superstar didn’t feature in a single minute at the tournament.

At the World Cup in 2023 Le Tissier wasn’t even included in the squad as Wiegman considers her to be a right back rather than her preferred central position.

With the next World Cup coming up in 2027, the 22-year-old still has plenty of time to prove herself before England’s next major tournament.
