Right-back Mayke will report back to Santos on Monday 22 with uncertainty over knee surgery and his contract.
According to Diario Do Peixe, before the break Cuca said Mayke planned a procedure for knee pain. He did not have it and is awaiting the club's decision. The board are weighing up a termination, but he would accept only if paid in full.
As he is considered injured and has played through pain, rules could protect him from termination. He was booed during the 17 May defeat to Coritiba at Neo Química Arena in the Brasileirão. Since arriving, he has featured little, with Igor Vinicius holding the position.
Mayke has had knee trouble since joining last year, though he was often omitted for technical reasons. After the boos against Coritiba, he was not selected for the next four matches. This year he has eight outings, four Paulista, three Brasileirão, one Sudamericana.
Contracted until the end of 2027, he was announced in July last year. He made 12 league appearances last season. He was signed amid a strong relationship with executive Alexandre Mattos from their time at Palmeiras, and he turns 34 in November.
Born in Carangola, Minas Gerais, he started at Siderúrgica and broke through at Cruzeiro. He stayed until 2017, then joined Palmeiras on loan before a permanent move, spending eight years there before signing for Santos.
