The Mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala has confirmed that no ultimatum was issued to AC Milan and Inter over the stadium, but hopes for a resolution by the summer.

To best highlight the confusion that surrounds the stadium project on Milan’s side at the moment, we point you to Paolo Scaroni’s words. He stated that San Donato is the number one opportunity for the club, and he even reassured the mayor of the region who had become concerned.

However, on 20 December he stated that it has once again become ‘Plan B’, because the club are looking at building a ‘new San Siro’ with their current co-tenants Inter after the project started back in 2019 was reignited.

There has been a willingness shown by the City Council to explore the sale of San Siro and the surrounding land, so the clubs can maximise revenue from the existing structure before then building their own new home on the plot adjacent.

Sala spoke to Amici e Nemici on Radio24 and he was asked about the plans for the new stadium among other topics, with his comments relayed by Calciomercato.com.

“There was no ultimatum, but since both parties – the Council and the clubs – would like to conclude the operation of transferring the stadium and the areas by the summer holidays , we are saying that every week lost is one more to recover,” he began.

“The sale is complicated, we are not just talking about the stadium but about the areas, but I reassure the people of Milan that the volumetric rights are those foreseen and we will not give anything away.

“Furthermore, the price is decided by the Revenue Agency. Today we are telling the clubs that these are works that will take years, so let’s try to get to the point.”
