Bayer Leverkusen delivered a resounding victory on Saturday against Heidenheim (6-0) on Matchday 10 of the Bundesliga.
The clash at the BayArena was highlighted by the stunning performance of Algerian international Ibrahim Mazza, who found the net twice in the 46th and 56th minutes.
After the match, the 19-year-old attacking midfielder spoke to Sky Sport Germany about his choice to represent Algeria over Germany, outlining the sporting reasons behind this pivotal decision.
With a smile, Mazza said: "Yes, I have officially decided to represent Algeria, and that's final. The decision has been made."
He clarified: "I made this choice purely for sporting reasons, because it aligns better with my footballing future."
The former Hertha Berlin player added: "In the German national team, the competition for my position is extremely fierce. With players like Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz, it's tough to break into the starting eleven."
He emphasized that his decision was not based on emotion: "Germany has a wealth of talented attacking midfielders, and it would have been difficult for me to find space in that squad."
Finally, Mazza concluded: "From a sporting perspective, representing Algeria gives me a greater chance to play in the World Cup and compete at the highest level. That's why I made this decision with full confidence."
