Mbappé hat-trick helps Real Madrid rout Real Sociedad in Mourinho's Bernabéu return | OneFootball

In José Mourinho's first official return to the Santiago Bernabéu as Real Madrid manager, his side produced a 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad on matchday two of La Liga, with a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappé and a goal plus an assist from Vinícius Júnior.

That result means that Merengues remain among the leaders in La Liga with a perfect record and host Málaga at the weekend. Meanwhile, the Basques are still without a point and sit in the relegation zone.

Mbappé decisive at the Bernabéu

Mourinho named a side with Fede Valverde and Bernardo Silva forming a quartet in midfield alongside Arda Güler and Jude Bellingham. Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior led the attack. Despite the attacking set-up, the team lacked creativity and produced a very pragmatic performance.

With Vini Júnior again quiet in the first half, it was Mbappé who stood out. To unlock a tight match, the Frenchman latched on to a superb through ball from Fede Valverde, drove forward with close control and struck powerfully to open the scoring.

Real Sociedad, who had already threatened through Sergio Gómez, levelled the match close to half-time when Luka Sucic pounced on the rebound after a Nguono effort in the box to make it 1-1.

Even without being brilliant, Los Blancos regained the lead in the second half through Mbappé again, this time combining with Bellingham before slotting past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1. This time, there was no room for a comeback.

In a playmaking mood, Bellingham fought for the ball in the box, outmuscled the defender and laid it off across the six-yard area for Vini to tap home.

Vinícius Júnior then finished the match with an assist of his own, threading a pass through for Mbappé to go one-on-one with the goalkeeper. With a delicate chip, the Frenchman completed his hat-trick and turned the win into a rout: 4-1 was the final score, after the referee disallowed Brahimi's late goal for Espí's offside.
