Real Madrid's quest to cut Barcelona's lead at the top of LaLiga back to four points with a win at Alavés got off to a good start with Eduardo Camavinga giving them the lead in the 34th minute.
However, just four minutes later Kylian Mbappé was dismissed for a terrible challenge.
The French forward needlessly lunged in reckless fashion, and was given his marching orders after a very brief review from the referee at the pitch-side monitor.
It is the 26-year-old's first red card since his move to Madrid in the summer, and means he is likely to miss the next three league games.
