It was officially confirmed yesterday that Kylian Mbappe will miss the Spanish Super Cup, a major blow for Real Madrid at a crucial stage of the season.
The French forward will not feature in the semi-final against Atletico Madrid, nor will he be available for a potential final, after sustaining a knee injury that has ruled him out of the trip to Saudi Arabia.
Mbappe’s absence is definitive. He did not travel with the squad, meaning Xabi Alonso must now plan the Super Cup campaign without his most decisive attacking weapon.
The timing could hardly be worse, given the form the striker has shown this season.
Across all competitions, Mbappe has registered an astonishing 29 goals and five assists in just 24 appearances, numbers that underline how central he has been to Madrid’s attacking output.
Despite being forced to watch from afar, Mbappe has made it clear that he remains emotionally invested in the team’s Super Cup journey.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star took to social media to send a message of encouragement to his teammates ahead of the semi-final showdown.

“Good luck, team. I have 1000% faith in you. We’re going to win. Hala Madrid! Let’s go for the Super Cup,” he wrote.
Notably, Real Madrid will need all the luck and the collective belief when they take on Diego Simeone’s side on Thursday.
Atletico Madrid remain a particularly uncomfortable opponent because they were the first team this season to truly expose Madrid’s weaknesses.
Their emphatic five-goal victory at the Metropolitano earlier in the campaign is still fresh in the memory and serves as a clear warning.
Without Mbappe, the responsibility will be spread across the squad, with Alonso expected to lean on tactical discipline and collective effort rather than individual brilliance.
While losing a player of Mbappe’s calibre is always damaging, Madrid will take confidence from his public show of support, which reinforces unity at a decisive moment.
