Real Madrid ensured they banished old demons on Sunday after beating Real Oviedo 3-0 to make it two wins from two games in 2025/26.
Scorers: Mbappé 37', 83', Vinicius 90+3'
Xabi Alonso's men were looking for their first win against the hosts on the road since 1952, and the manager handed Franco Mastantuono and Rodrygo the start, opting to bench Vinicius Junior.
Yet Real Oviedo wanted to sting the visitors early and almost did so within 30 seconds - which would have been an incredible scene.
That approach fizzled as the game went on, with the hosts unable to register more than one shot in the entire first half. Instead, it was Real Madrid who controlled things on the pitch.
And one brilliant moment led to the opener. Arda Güler brilliantly picked out Kylian Mbappé, who was facing with his back to goal. The Frenchman's slick turn then put him in the perfect spot to find the far bottom left corner.
Real Oviedo changed their approach in the second half, suggesting they might be able to cook something up of their own. However, no team move or pass had enough quality in it.
Kwasi Sibo was the man to pull the hosts level on two occasions, maybe potentially, but his long-range efforts fell short of the mark near the fading stages. Likewise, though, Real Madrid's attack appeared to be dwindling, leaving the door open.
However, in one swift move, it was a Vinicius Junior connection with Mbappé that allowed the visitors to secure all three points. The Frenchman now has three goals in two LaLiga games this season.
Then in the dying stages, it was the provider who turned scorer as Vinicius slotted home a late third and his first of the season to ensure Real Madrid sit tied for first in the table.
