Bryan Mbeumo said that he always knew that he could “achieve something” at Manchester United when he joined the club.
The Cameroon international is set to make his debut in the Champions League against Sabah FK on Thursday in his second season as a Manchester United player.
The winger moved to England in 2019 from Troyes, where he spent six years at Brentford; a spell which included promotion from the Championship and a 20-goal season in the Premier League.
“I saw the team and the players so I knew I’d have connections with the guys here at United,” he said.
“I received some messages from the players before I came here and I was convinced we could achieve something good.”
“It’s the first time I’ve watched the draw,” Mbeumo said ahead of his first Champions League campaign.
“I’m excited for the games. Every country and every team are different, so it’s good to go there and see.”
“It’s a massive reward for me, and I’m looking forward to it.”
Since joining United Mbeumo has played in several positions across the front line. That includes up front, off the right and sometimes off the left.
Carrick joked in the press conference that Mbeumo “prefers playing on the left,” but the forward explained differently.
“I’m used to a few positions,” he said. “In my first season I played right, left and central. I have some preferences, but it does not really matter as I can play and perform for the team.”
