McAvennie unhappy at what he spotted Laxalt do v Rangers and insists it’s over for him at Celtic | OneFootball

Frank McAvennie claims Celtic will not sign Diego Laxalt on a permanent deal after his poor performance against Rangers in the Scottish Cup.

The former Celtic striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Laxalt’s body language proves how fed up he is at Parkhead.

Laxalt, 28, joined Celtic on loan from AC Milan at the start of October and has so far made 26 appearances in all competitions.

He endured a torrid afternoon against Rangers last weekend, highlighted by Joe Aribo breezing past him moments before the Gers grabbed their second goal.

When asked if Celtic should keep hold of Laxalt after his Old Firm performance, McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “No, no, not a chance, I don’t think it will happen.

“Celtic need a big clear out. Reading between the lines here, you can see his body language.

“He’s fed up. He just wants to end the season and to move on and start a new chapter in his life.

“That’s fine but I wanted him and the rest of the players to finish the season strong, with a bit of fight.

“They were good enough to challenge Rangers and they didn’t and now they’re out of the cup, I can’t see Laxalt staying.”

Laxalt was an unused substitute in Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with Aberdeen as a very late Leigh Griffiths goal kept Celtic’s unbeaten run at Pittodrie intact.

Greg Taylor started at left back instead and almost grabbed himself a goal as Lewis Ferguson made an excellent block on the line to deny his goal-bound header.
