Benni McCarthy’s 10 man Harambee Stars stun two time champions to edge closer to knockout stage.
McCarthy Channels Mourinho in Kenya’s Tight Victory Over Morocco
Kenya beat Morocco 1 - 0 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Sunday , moving within reach of the African Nations Championship quarter finals.
Head coach Benni McCarthy who played under Jose Mourinho at FC Porto credited his side’s resilience to the "game management" style he learned from the Portuguese tactician.
"It’s not always pretty for the fans but you cling to your lead at any cost" McCarthy explained.
Centre backs Sylvester Owino & Mike Kibwage dominated aerial duels while full backs Siraj Mohammed & Lewis Bandi shut down Morocco’s wide threats.
Remarkably this was the second match in row Kenya'd finished with 10 men after similar scenario in their draw with Angola.
The result keeps Kenya unbeaten in Group A with 7 point from 3 match ahead of Morocco & Angola. A win or draw against Zambia in their final group game would secure top spot and quarter final place in their CHAN debut.
