Chelsea interim manager Calum McFarlane says that he is “gutted” that things did not work out at the club for Liam Rosenior.
Rosenior was dismissed following a 3-0 defeat to Brighton – their fifth consecutive league loss without scoring.
“Yeah, I spoke to him,” McFarlane revealed. “I am not sure how he has done that [communicated with players] or how that has been done.
“I’ve spoken to him on the phone on Wednesday. He was good, it was a good conversation. I have a lot of respect for Liam, I didn’t know him before he came to the club, he welcomed me in brilliantly.
“I have a great relationship with him and I am gutted it didn’t work out.”

Following Enzo Maresca’s departure in January, McFarlane previously took charge for a 1-1 draw with Manchester City and 2-1 loss to Fulham.
However, there has been little time for reflection ahead of their semi-final clash with Leeds United on Sunday afternoon.
“We haven’t had a clear-the-air meeting, we have got the group focused for Sunday,” he said.
“We have spoken about the game plan and how we are going to approach the game both in and out of possession. It’s important we have a real focus for the game on Sunday.
“We can’t be thinking about anything else, what’s gone on in the past doesn’t need to be spoken about. It’s just everything geared towards Sunday.”
