McGinn calls for Aston Villa perspective after Spurs stage comeback win | OneFootball

John McGinn has called for ‘some perspective’ after Aston Villa lost 4-1 at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.

Unai Emery’s side were well beaten in North London as Spurs fought back from a goal down to seal a comfortable win in the capital. Morgan Rogers had fired Aston Villa ahead before half-time but Spurs turned the game around after the break.

Brennan Johnson levelled for the home side before Dominic Solanke’s double completed the turnaround. James Maddison scored the fourth with a free-kick to seal three points for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Defeat was just Villa’s second of the Premier League season and McGinn has urged for perspective. The Scotland international said Villa will not be the only team beaten at Spurs this season and acknowledged the role the crowd played in lifting the home side.

“We’ve got to keep our heads a wee bit in there and have some perspective. Many teams will come here and suffer that defeat,” McGinn said, as per the BBC.

“It got loud. Probably as loud as I’ve heard it as an away player.

“It’s about staying positive. Spurs beat us 4-1 last season and we finished above them.

“They punished our mistakes. We had a chance at 2-1 to equalise. The third one was a mistake and then a great free-kick from the fourth.”

Unai Emery said Villa ‘accept’ the result but admitted his side are determined to move on as soon as possible.

“We won two times here and we knew how to win here but they are a good team,” the Spaniard said speaking to Sky Sports.

“We had to keep going and try to focus again on our way [after conceding] because in the league the most important thing is to keep the position we are in.

“They scored so quick in the second half. When they scored the second goal it is difficult because their transition is so, so strong. Winning was more difficult. If we score the second goal maybe it is a possibility to win here.

“When you are losing you have to try and get one step forward to try and change the result. But we know how difficult it is against Tottenham. 4-1 is a tough result but the match we played was more or less in line with the expectation I had before the match.

“We are disappointed, frustrated but we are accepting it. We know our way, it is 38 matches, the league is very tight.”
