Scott McTominay has dropped out of the Scotland national team squad after a 3-1 loss to Iceland on Friday evening and ahead of an international friendly against Liechtenstein scheduled for Monday evening.
The Scottish FA have confirmed that McTominay, along with Kieran Tierney, has left the squad due to an unspecified knock.
“Scott (McTominay) and Kieran (Tierney) both came into camp carrying minor issues,” head coach Steve Clarke confirmed in a statement posted on Monday.
“I think if we had longer between the matches they’d have had a chance but it’s the end of season so the most important thing is that they have a good rest over the summer and come back flying in the Autumn,” he continued.

McTominay’s departure from the Scotland squad means that his 2024-25 season is now officially complete with no more commitments at club or international level until the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign.
The former Manchester United midfielder took Serie A by storm in his maiden campaign, helping Napoli to their second Scudetto in three years while also picking up the division’s MVP award in the process.

He and teammate Billy Gilmour also became the first Scotland internationals to win the Serie A title in 120 years.
McTominay will return to Napoli in time for pre-season and is expected to go up against newly-promoted Sassuolo in his first match of the 2025-26 season.
