If there’s one thing that should be a feature of every derby match the world over, it’s bone-crunching tackles.

There’s nothing that gets fans off their seats quite like the blood and thunder of two tribes going to war and if the referee isn’t brandishing cards left, right and centre in your team’s derby, is it even really a derby?

And if indiscipline really is the mark of a truly great rivalry, we’re now able to measure which of the great grudge matches are the world’s craziest.

It’s all thanks to Reddit user DriesMertens (not the Napoli player, as far as we’re aware) who has gone to the trouble of working out the average number of yellow and red cards shown over the last five fixtures of pretty much every derby around the world to show which ones are the spiciest and here, we present to you his or her rather surprising findings.
