Roberto De Zerbi departed earlier this week. RMC Sport reports Benatia then offered his resignation, which was rejected, so he remains in post for now.

Benatia had previously tied his future to De Zerbi, saying he would go when the Italian left.

Marseille are in full crisis mode despite sitting fourth in Ligue 1 and reaching the Coupe de France quarter-finals. The club are searching for another manager.

Doubts persist over Benatia’s long-term role at the Vélodrome. His position beyond this campaign appears to hinge on stabilisation at the club.
