After Friedhelm Funkel's departure, 1. FC Köln's search for a new coach went into overdrive. According to media reports, there were several candidates, such as Urs Fischer and also Lukas Kwasniok. In the end, the Billy Goats decided on the Paderborn coach. Both clubs were able to reach an agreement, as reported independently by 'Bild' and 'Express'.
