Tottenham Hotspur experienced another rollercoaster evening in their Europa League campaign as they drew 2-2 against Roma at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Fresh from an emphatic 4-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City, Spurs looked poised to maintain their momentum but faltered in the dying minutes, conceding a soft goal that cost them the win.

Son Heung-Min opened the scoring early with a composed penalty in the fifth minute, setting the tone for a promising night.

Roma equalised through Evan Ndicka, but Brennan Johnson restored Tottenham’s lead with a well-taken goal before half-time.

However, defensive lapses allowed Mats Hummels to snatch an equaliser for Roma in stoppage time, leaving Spurs fans frustrated.

One of the biggest talking points of the match was the performance of Radu Dragusin. Dragusin, a 22-year-old Romanian footballer, currently plays as a defender for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Romanian defender, who had shone in Tottenham’s victory over Manchester City, struggled to replicate that form against Roma.

He was criticised for his role in conceding Roma’s first goal, with media outlets pointing out his unconvincing display.

Football London rated Dragusin 6/10, praising his overall solidity but lamenting the defence’s failure to prevent chances.

The Evening Standard was harsher, giving him 5/10, noting a jittery display despite his contributions to maintaining a disciplined defensive line.

Also, the Express echoed similar sentiments, criticising him for conceding a free kick that led to Roma’s equaliser and describing his performance as unconvincing.

Statistically, Dragusin made four clearances and blocked a shot but failed to win any duels and lost possession four times.

Postecoglou’s dilemma

The absence of key defender Cristian Romero was sorely felt, and Dragusin’s uneven performances underline the need for stability in the backline.

Despite the disappointing result, Tottenham still showed glimpses of quality in attack, with Johnson’s goal a standout moment.

The Spurs will prepare for their upcoming Premier League fixtures, Spurs must find a way to turn their defensive fragility into resilience if they hope to challenge on multiple fronts this season.
