The Italian press have issued a stark warning to Inter Milan, arguing that the club must better balance the demands of Serie A and the Champions League to avoid repeating the missteps of last season.
The Gazzetta dello Sport draws a vivid comparison, suggesting that teams “risk burning their wings” if they fly too close to the Champions League sun.
Indeed, a reference to the Nerazzurri’s exhausting but ultimately unsuccessful run last year.
The warning comes as Italian sides again feel the strain of European commitments.

According to the analysis, the energy spent in midweek competitions continues to shape domestic form, and recent results underline the point.
Inter and Napoli, seen as the two most credible title challengers, both followed Serie A victories with defeats in Europe.
Inter’s case is the clearest example. Chivu’s team looked dominant against Como but were noticeably less sharp against Liverpool at San Siro.
While the quality of the opponent played a part, Gazzetta stresses that fatigue was a bigger factor.
Chivu made just one change from the league win, Henrikh Mkhitaryan coming in, and the lack of rotation showed as Liverpool seized the initiative.
Napoli suffered a similar fate, patched up by injuries and stretched thin before falling away at Benfica days after beating Juventus.
The paper argues these patterns reinforce the need for Italian clubs, especially Inter, to manage both competitions with greater strategic discipline if they want to avoid repeating past disappointments.
