AZ beat Fortuna Sittard 2-0 at the AFAS Stadion, staying sixth in the Eredivisie after first half goals from Mexx Meerdink and Sven Mijnans.

In the 11th minute, Meerdink swept in from the centre of the box after Isak Jensen's pass. Moments later, Mijnans thumped a left-footer from outside the area to double the lead (15.).

After the restart, Jeroen Zoet kept AZ in control with four saves as the visitors pushed.

Kristoffer Peterson's introduction sparked Fortuna Sittard, his cross teeing up Lance Duijvestijn for a low effort that Zoet parried (48.).

Duijvestijn then thought he had pulled one back, but his finish was overturned for offside after a VAR review (65.).

Luuk Koopmans denied Mijnans twice to prevent further damage (73., 87.).

AZ produced 15 attempts with six on target and 54.7% possession. Fortuna Sittard registered nine attempts, four on target.

Next, AZ visit Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Conference League. Fortuna Sittard host NAC Breda.
