The Swans have been looking in the transfer market to strengthen their squad for the upcoming season and have already brought several new faces to the club this summer.

However, the deal to sign Almeida this summer has taken another turn, even after Swansea City and Valencia reached an agreement over the transfer.

The 26-year-old has rejected the move to Swansea, despite being banned from training as the Spanish club are pushing to sell him this summer.

The Portuguese midfielder feels he could see his stock rise with a move away from Valencia, but will only accept a loan move if the transfer is to Swansea City.

Now, Celta Vigo have entered the race to sign Almeida, but have not made an offer to Valencia yet, and Los Che are to hold a meeting with the player today as matters heat up, according to Spanish journalist Nacho Sanchis.

Celta Vigo have approached Almeida’s entourage, and he is willing to join them, but the club will need to offload players from their squad to facilitate the move.

Meanwhile, Valencia have an offer on the table from Swansea City and want the player to join the Championship side, with Los Che CEO Ron Gourlay also asking Almeida to accept the Swans’ offer.

As things stand, Almeida is holding out to see if a deal with Celta Vigo can be done, and for a move to Swansea City, he will only accept a loan deal.

The agreement between Swansea City and Valencia to sign Almeida is believed to be worth an initial €3.5m, plus add-ons and also a sell-on clause.

Valencia do not want to wait for Celta Vigo and want to convince Almeida to join Swansea City now.

Almeida has been standing firm and refusing to go and it remains to be seen what the outcome of today’s meeting is.

Manager Vitor Matos will want this deal to be resolved quickly, as his side will face the first test of the new season when they lock horns with Birmingham City this weekend in the EFL Cup first round.
