Grêmio and new head coach Luis Castro have been aligning plans for 2026 in virtual meetings, with his arrival in Porto Alegre scheduled for Saturday 20.

According to GZH, Castro and his staff have already shared impressions after tracking the team’s 2025 matches, examining dips in form and identifying who fits the plans and who could be moved in the next window.

The club’s football department has also presented its view of the squad, with input from Luiz Felipe Scolari, the technical coordinator, as the base of next season’s group takes shape.

Once in the city, in-person meetings at CT Luiz Carvalho will set out the opening days of pre-season, which begins on 2 January. The expectation is that the first two Campeonato Gaúcho fixtures will feature academy players, with the first team pencilled in to debut on 17 against São José at the Arena.

Recruitment work is ongoing, but the priority is to streamline the squad and create financial room for signings. The club has agreed the sale of forward Alysson to Aston Villa in England and arranged a loan for Uruguayan Cristian Olivera to Bahia.

Castro’s immediate agenda is set as follows, 20/12 arrival in Porto Alegre, 21/12 tour of CT Luiz Carvalho and meetings, 22/12 official presentation and press conference at the Arena, 23/12 trip to Portugal for the end-of-year holidays.
