Melker Ellborg thanks Sunderland fans with nine-word Instagram message after unveiling | OneFootball

New Sunderland signing Melker Ellborg thanked supporters after being presented to the Stadium of Light crowd before kick-off against Burnley. He followed up with a nine-word Instagram message.

Introduced on the pitch, the 22-year-old acknowledged all four stands as he sampled the atmosphere. The player said in a post, "Thank you for the warm welcome. What a start."

Sunderland then beat Burnley 3-0 to move to 36 points in the Premier League.

The Black Cats have signed Ellborg from Malmö FF during the transfer window, subject to international clearance, for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £3 million. He has agreed a long-term deal through to the summer of 2030.

Ellborg enjoyed a breakthrough 2025 in Sweden, keeping five clean sheets in seven league games and gaining European minutes with Malmö in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. He started at IFK Berga, joined Malmö in 2021, and had loans with IFK Malmö, Ariana FC and Trelleborgs FF.
