Memphis Depay supplied the decisive pass as Corinthians beat Rosario Central 1-0 at Neo Química Arena on Thursday night to reach the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals.

The breakthrough came at 33 minutes of the second half, Depay curling a free-kick from the left to the near post where Breno Bidon darted across his marker to toe the ball in. According to Meu Timao, it was the Dutch forward’s second assist of 2026, lifting him into the club’s top five for the year.

Depay’s previous assist was on 5 February, when he set up Kayke for the final goal in a 3-0 win over Capivariano in the Campeonato Paulista first round. Rodrigo Garro leads the 2026 list on 11 assists, with Matheuzinho and Yuri Alberto on four and Matheus Bidu on three. Depay sits alongside Kaio César, Pedro Raul, André Luiz, Gustavo Henrique and Zakaria Labyad on two.

The match also marked Depay’s return after the World Cup and a turnaround in contract talks. He had not played for the club since 27 May, a group-stage defeat to Platense, then represented the Netherlands in the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Post-World Cup, negotiations stalled despite a verbal two-year agreement, the board rowing back and citing financial issues in an official statement. The parties met last week amid supporter pressure on the board led by Osmar Stabile and reworked the figures to seal a new deal, which was then approved by the Conselho de Orientação.

Corinthians will face Estudiantes de La Plata in the quarter-finals in the weeks of 9 and 16 September. Before then they visit Coritiba on Sunday at 19:30 at Couto Pereira in the Brasileirão’s 24th round.
