Memphis Depay returns to boost Corinthians in Copa do Brasil semis

Absent from Corinthians’ last two matches against Cruzeiro (35th round) and Botafogo (36th round) due to a bone edema in his left knee, forward Memphis Depay is close to returning to the pitch. The number 10 trained with the ball this Thursday (4th) and is expected to strengthen the Alvinegro in the semifinals of the Copa do Brasil on December 10 and 14, against Cruzeiro.

His last match was on November 20, in a 3-1 home victory over São Paulo, in the 34th round of the Brasileirão. As published by Meu Timão, the Dutchman trained alongside some youth players, as well as right-back Matheuzinho and midfielder Charles, who did not travel to the Northeast for the match against Fortaleza on the night of last Wednesday (3rd).

Besides Memphis, Corinthians has two other players in the medical department: midfielder Rodrigo Garro, with a soleus muscle strain, and Yuri Alberto, diagnosed with edema in the pubic symphysis and overload of the adductor muscles. In a press conference after the match against Fortaleza, coach Dorival Júnior spoke about the trio’s situation.

“He (Memphis) is in the final stage of recovery. I hope there won’t be a new injury and that everything progresses well. Unfortunately, we had this setback with the two players who couldn’t travel. There was no possibility of bringing them, as they were already showing symptoms and started treatment immediately after the last match. Now, we await their return to assess their progress, especially in these last two days and until tomorrow, when we arrive in São Paulo,” he said.

Memphis Depay has 10 goals and 10 assists in 46 matches (36 as a starter) for Corinthians this season. The number 10 is the team’s second top scorer and top assist provider in 2025. Signed in September last year, he was fundamental in the team’s surge in the last Brasileirão and played an important role in winning the 2025 Paulista, especially in the classics against Santos and Palmeiras. In total, he has 17 goals and 14 assists in 60 matches (47 as a starter) for the Alvinegro.
