Memphis Depay will not face Peñarol on Thursday in the Libertadores after feeling calf discomfort, a different area to his recent thigh issue. Central do Timão reports that the setback has delayed his Corinthians comeback.
Corinthians had hoped he would at least travel to Uruguay, but plans were halted and Fernando Diniz remains without his number 10.
Depay has been sidelined since 22 March with a right thigh injury that later worsened during gym work. He returned to on-pitch training two weeks ago, then felt the calf problem.
Since 2025 he has endured several knocks, sprains and muscle problems, totalling 144 days out.
His deal expires on 20 June with no agreement to extend. He could have only two chances to play beforehand, against Atlético-MG on Sunday and Platense on 27 in Itaquera.
The Dutch begin World Cup preparations on 30 May, so he is also expected to miss Corinthians against Grêmio that day in Porto Alegre. Ronald Koeman wants him to feature at least once before naming his squad on 27.
Renewal talks are complicated, with sponsor Esportes da Sorte not planning to help fund an agreement. Depay’s package is about R$ 3 million per month plus bonuses, and any extension hinges on a partner covering the 32-year-old’s wages.
He has accepted reduced terms and a two-season renewal is under discussion if partners meet the club’s demands. About R$ 40 million in owed bonuses would need renegotiation, and he has expressed a wish to stay.
