Memphis Depay has asked to miss Corinthians’ trip to Flamengo on Sunday because of muscle discomfort, according to UOL. The final decision rests with head coach Fernando Diniz.
The forward is concerned that playing could aggravate the issue and lead to an injury. He is wary of jeopardising his involvement in Wednesday’s Libertadores quarter-final second leg against Estudiantes.
Corinthians drew 1-1 away in La Plata in the first leg. They now need a strong result at home to reach the semi-finals.
Flamengo are also expected to rotate for the clássico, with the Libertadores return against Independiente del Valle looming after a first leg at altitude. Léo Pereira, who came off in Quito with muscle pain, is unlikely to start. Jorginho and Arrascaeta are set to be rested, while Pedro is almost certain to begin after a late cameo in the Libertadores.
Flamengo v Corinthians is on Sunday 13 at 17:30 Brasília time at the Maracanã, in the 27th round of the Brasileirão. Flamengo are in the title race, while Corinthians have one eye on the continental tie.
