Memphis has been reported to the STJD for using a mobile phone on the bench during Corinthians 1-1 Flamengo at Neo Química Arena on Sunday, in round eight of the Campeonato Brasileiro. He could be punished under article 258, which covers conduct contrary to sporting discipline or ethics not otherwise specified.

The player said in a post that the phone use was purely to contact medical staff in the Netherlands, and that he returned pitchside to support the team despite the injury. He also expressed frustration with the result and said they would keep working for better days.

If found guilty, the Corinthians No 10 faces a suspension of one to six matches and a proportional fine.

In its submission, the STJD prosecutor warned that high-profile behaviour could normalise electronic devices on benches, weaken disciplinary control, enable improper communications and make enforcement harder for referees and organisers.

Memphis had been withdrawn after 22 minutes of the first half with pain in his right thigh. After showering, he reappeared for the second period and was seen using the device on the bench, drawing an immediate reprimand from the coaching staff.
