Manchester United are reportedly preparing to ‘open talks’ with Borussia Dortmund star Felix Nmecha’s agent to gauge the feasibility of his client making a move in the summer.

The United faithful are already well aware that the focus of the next transfer window will be almost entirely on midfielders, following a summer in which revitalising the frontline took priority via the additions of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.

That’s not to say other areas of the squad won’t be reinforced by INEOS, but it’s no secret that the key decision-makers have compiled a lengthy list of midfield targets from England and the rest of Europe – and Nmecha is well amongst the mix.

The 25-year-old, whose older brother Lukas is currently plying his trade at Leeds United, was on Manchester City’s books for 14 years before his departure to VfL Wolfsburg in 2021.

He left having made just three appearances for the Blues, none of which came in the Premier League, and eventually departed as a free agent.

Nmecha, hailed as a ‘powerhouse’ by Chelsea News, has since enjoyed almost five years’ worth of action in his native Germany, spending two years with Wolfsburg before joining Dortmund in 2023 in a deal worth £26 million.

How feasible is a deal for Nmecha?

His deal at the Signal Iduna Park runs until 2028, giving Dortmund a strong negotiating position when it comes to deciding his potential transfer fee.

According to Manchester Evening News, the German giants could demand around £50m if they’re made to facilitate the six-capped international’s exit.

Josh Holland’s report adds that Nmecha can operate as both a No.6 and a No.8, with United viewing him as an ideal partner to play alongside Kobbie Mainoo when Casemiro is released in June.
