Because of course he did.
Lionel Messi has marked an emotional evening in Argentina with a goal in what could be his final competitive game on home soil for the world champions.
It was a touching atmosphere when the teams took the pitch, with Messi visibly in tears in warmups as the crowd serenaded him.
It was, of course, written in the stars that Messi would score on the night, and he did so late in the first-half in vintage Messi fashion.
After a run in behind from Julián Alvarez, the great one picked up the pass from his teammate and coolly chipped a handful of Venezuelan defenders in the penalty area to open the scoring.
The great one followed that up with his second of the night in the dying minutes of the affair as Argentina cruised on the night.
Messi was seen off the pitch by an emotional ovation, fireworks, and plenty of tears.
You just knew he would do it on tonight of all nights.
