Lionel Messi has bought UE Cornella, acquiring 100% of the shares in the Tercera RFEF side on Thursday.
The club said in a statement that the operation reinforces his ties with Barcelona and his support for Catalan talent, and it described the news on social media as the news of the century while confirming Messi as the new owner.
It also highlighted his commitment to youth development, pointing to a strong academy with teams in the top levels nationally and territorially, and referenced projects including the Messi Cup.
Founded on 29 April 1951, UE Cornella play at the Nou Estadi Municipal de Cornella, which holds 5,824. They currently compete in Spain’s fifth tier, the Tercera RFEF.
Messi is linked to Leones de Rosario, owned by his family, and to Deportivo LSM of Uruguay alongside Luis Suárez. He could become a co-owner of Inter Miami once he retires from professional football.
