Messi excited for first ever meeting with England | OneFootball

Lionel Messi says he is relishing facing England for the first time in his career when Argentina take on the Three Lions in the World Cup semi finals.

Argentina beat Switzerland 3-1 after extra time following England’s win over Norway to set up the final four clash in Atlanta.

“It’s always special to play a big team. It never happened to me, playing against England. This is the first time,” Messi said after his side’s quarter-final win.

“A World Cup semi final is always a special match. Now we’ll rest and get ready for that. We’re coming from a lot of wear and tear having played another extra-time match and sometimes it shows.

“We have to enjoy it and experience it just like the fans do. We have to make the most of these moments, because we went a long time without being world champions and now we’re in the semi finals again, fighting for the top prize, and we don’t know when this might happen again.”

“The team is digging deep and finding something extra. We came away with a very hard fought victory (against Switzerland).”
