Messi named in MLS Team of the Matchday after brace in Inter Miami’s 3-2 win

According to Inter Miami, captain Leo Messi has been named in the MLS Team of the Matchday, presented by Audi, for week eight of the 2026 regular season. The recognition follows his starring role in a 3-2 win at Colorado Rapids on Saturday.

Messi opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 18th minute, then struck the winner in the 80th minute.

The match was played at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, with 75,824 in attendance, the second highest in MLS history.

It is Messi’s fourth Team of the Matchday selection of the regular season.

The two-time Landon Donovan MLS MVP and current MLS Golden Boot holder now has seven goals in seven matches, tied for second in MLS this season.
