Messi named in MLS Team of the Matchday after goal and assist

Leo Messi has been named in the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 14 of the 2026 regular season. According to Inter Miami, the honour recognises his influential display on Sunday.

Inter Miami beat Portland Timbers 2-0, the club’s first victory at Nu Stadium.

Messi opened the scoring in the 31st minute, finishing from the centre of the area after a sublime backheel from Telasco Segovia.

He then created the second in the 42nd minute, making a brilliant run into the area before supplying Germán Berterame.

The captain has produced multiple goal contributions in each of his past four appearances.

He now has 12 goals, tied for second in the MLS Golden Boot race, and six assists this regular season. It is his eighth Team of the Matchday selection of the campaign and his fourth in succession.
