Messi unpicks Shobeir as Argentina come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 | OneFootball

Argentina, two down until 79 minutes, stunned Egypt 3-2 as Lionel Messi produced an assist and a goal. Mostafa Shobeir excelled for long spells before being beaten late.

Yasser Ibrahim outjumped Lisandro Martinez for Egypt’s opener on 15 minutes, then Shobeir saved Messi’s penalty on 21. He also kept out Alexis Mac Allister and watched Messi clip a free-kick against the post on 31. L'Équipe’s ratings later gave Messi eight and Shobeir seven.

Shobeir foiled Julian Alvarez on 39. Haissem Hassan dazzled, seeing a strike ruled out on 58 for an earlier Attia foul, then from Mohamed Salah’s pass beat Enzo Fernandez to tee up Ziko for 2-0 on 67.

Messi turned it. His cross was headed in by Cristian Romero on 79, then he equalised with a half-volley on 83, Shobeir getting a touch but unable to keep it out.

Alvarez robbed Salah and Enzo Fernandez swept in the winner on 90+2. Egypt’s keeper had been close to Romero’s header and could do little about the late finishes.
