Meunier benched as Belgium progress, Valencia interest remains

Meunier’s role shifted at the World Cup as Belgium beat New Zealand 5-1 to reach the round of 32 as group winners. The Valencia right-back target watched from the bench.

According to Superdeporte, Valencia have not lost sight of Meunier, who is weighing his next step after his Lille contract expired. Spain is seen as an appealing option for the defender and the Mestalla club are keen.

He started Belgium’s first two matches.

Against Iran he was substituted on 57 minutes, then Timothy Castagne of Fulham took the right-back slot against the Oceanians and Meunier did not feature.

Belgium will face South Korea on Wednesday at 21:00.
