We’ve reached the 22nd of January and Chelsea have done very little in terms of transfers.

Dom Smith of the Evening Standard has lined up ten potential deals we could see before the end of the month.

“Chelsea recruiters have visited [Jeremy Jacquet] in France and also hold an interest in Como’s Jacobo Ramon as well as Bournemouth’s Marco Senesi. But Senesi also has interest from Juventus and Barcelona and it is Jacquet who is Chelsea’s primary target,” Smith begins.

“Teenage Barca starlet Dro and Juventus attacker Kenan Yildiz are of interest. Chelsea want to sell Raheem Sterling, Axel Disasi and David Datro Fofana. There is interest in Dario Essugo and Shim Mheuka, but it remains to be seen whether Chelsea wish to loan them out.”

Chelsea’s chances of signing anyone this month looking slim

Of all that, most seems pretty unrealistic. Disasi and Sterling have been for sale for a while with no interest. We don’t see that changing. That in turn means there’s no incoming cash available to balance a deal for someone like Jacquet.

Dro and Yildiz are also far too expensive for a January deal. Como won’t sell Ramon as they’re doing so well in the league, and we’d imagine Bournemouth will take a hard line on Senesi too.

We can imagine a deal to sell DDF being sorted in the weeks to come, and a loan for Shim Mheuka. Our sense is that the club would rather keep Essugo around, both as midfield cover and to allow him to continue to work with Liam Rosenior, given how long he’s been out injured this season.

In other news…

Ato Ampah is another talent from the Chelsea production line, and he’s got multiple teams keen on signing him this month according to reporting.

Liam Rosenior spoke to Chelsea TV after the win over Pafos and pointed out how impressed he had been by the resilience his players showed under pressure as the clock ticked down.
