According to Goal.com, Michael Carrick has voiced major concern about Benjamin Sesko’s fitness after the striker missed Manchester United’s Premier League match at Fulham, with a shin problem under assessment and no timeline yet.

The 23-year-old started the 3-2 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton on Wednesday, then reported discomfort, which led to his omission at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

The setback is a recurrence of the issue that kept him out for over two months, ruling him out of United’s final three games last season and their entire pre-season.

Speaking after the Fulham match, Carrick said United are still evaluating Sesko and that he was not ready to play, adding there is no further update for now.

United have only one league win from their opening five fixtures after drawing at Fulham. Sesko has made six appearances this season, returning as a substitute at Hull on the opening weekend.

There was some encouragement as Luke Shaw returned to the starting XI and £70 million signing Carlos Baleba made the bench for the first time following an ankle problem.

Matthijs de Ligt travelled but was not fit for selection, and Amad Diallo is yet to feature this season. A three-week international break now offers recovery time, with Sesko’s Slovenia plans unclear and Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo doubts for England.

After the break, United host Tottenham on October 10 before visiting Spain to face Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.
