Manchester United were forced to come from behind before eventually thrashing Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford on Sunday.

As per the reliable Sully, Michael Carrick has doubts about the England international’s qualities without the ball, and he has informed the club hierarchy of the same.

“What I’ve heard, regardless of this game, is that Carrick doesn’t fully trust Luke Shaw off the ball and he’s made the need for another left back clear to the recruitment team.

Carrick’s concerns revealed

Academy graduates Harry Amass and Diego Leon have been deemed not ready for the step up, but the co-owners are reluctant to spend big as they have plans to sign their dream replacement in Lewis Hall next summer.

That has meant a move for Alejandro Balde of Barcelona and RB Leipzig’s David Raum is practically off the cards.

But it would be a risk if a low-cost addition were to come in and fail to adequately replace Luke Shaw, especially if Amass also ends up leaving.

United need quality on the left and now. Both Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can play there, but they are far more adept down the right.

INEOS need to solve left-back crisis

Patrick Dorgu has been deemed better when playing further forward, while it would be a mistake to utilise new signing Carlos Baleba as a left-back instead of using him at the base of the midfield.
