The defender is the last of Man United’s World Cup stars to return from a mandatory three-week summer break after helping Argentina reach the final where they were beaten by Spain in extra-time.

However, Martinez is not expected to be available for Man Utd’s pre-season friendly against Leeds United on Wednesday evening given his lack of training.

Though, he could get some minutes at the weekend against AC Milan - now managed by former Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim - in what is United’s final outing before the start of the new season.

Rashford spent last season on loan at Barcelona and has not made a competitive appearance for Man Utd since December 2024 but looks set to figure into Michael Carrick’s plans for the 2026-27 campaign.

“I've played with him. I played in the game he made his debut, so we have a history,” Carrick said when asked about Rashford following the draw against Paris Saint-Germain last weekend.

“We have got a full squad this week in Dublin. We fly straight there and have a few days where we have the whole group back together.

“Marcus is part of that, and Kobbie and Lisandro. We look forward to seeing them.”
