Manchester United under Michael Carrick have looked like a team revitalised as compared to the dark days under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils have dispatched noisy neighbours Manchester City, while stunning league leaders Arsenal. They have also notched a dramatic late win against Fulham and eased past Tottenham Hotspur.

Following their last-gasp draw against West Ham, United are currently five games unbeaten and are among the most in-form teams in the division.

And the caretaker head coach has received his just reward — the Premier League Manager of the Month award at the first time of asking.

Michael Carrick on fire

The club’s brilliant performances have been difficult for INEOS to ignore, with the clamour to hand Carrick the permanent job growing by the minute.

According to Teamtalk, United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, was always confident that the ex-England international would eventually work himself into the frame for the permanent role.

Admiration for Carrick’s work is increasing by the day, and his impact has caught the other members of the hierarchy by surprise.

“Behind the scenes, Man Utd director of football, Jason Wilcox, and his football operations team continue to conduct their due diligence on all managerial options, as expected.

Wilcox always had faith

“But sources insist that Wilcox and his staff always knew that Carrick had the potential to force his way into the reckoning, and privately, they are delighted that he has done exactly that.

“One well-placed insider told TEAMtalk that Man Utd are “loving his style, demeanour and attitude” since his return, with admiration growing week by week.

“The insider added that the former West Ham United and England international midfielder has pushed himself far deeper into the conversation for the permanent job than anyone at the club initially expected.”

With interest in his services also on the rise, United have a decision to take and soon. If they continue to dilly-dally, who knows? They might just lose out on the perfect candidate.
