Michael Carrick reveals what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told him after missing out on Manchester United interim role | OneFootball

Michael Carrick has revealed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been fully supportive of his appointment as Manchester United’s interim head coach. 

Solskjaer was believed to be ahead of Carrick for the interim role before the interview process. 

Carrick won the race after impressing the club’s hierarchy during the face-to-face discussions with them. 

Despite missing out on the coveted role at Old Trafford, Solskjaer congratulated Carrick on his victory against Manchester City and wished him every success this season. 

Speaking to the media before Sunday’s showdown with Arsenal, the Red Devils boss said:  “Yes, I spoke to him. We’ve been through a lot together, so he’s been fully supportive as you’d expect. 

“He’s some man, and I respect him an awful lot. He wished us all the best, and he was happy that we got the right result against Manchester City.” 

“I think friendships, you have conversations. I’ve got a lot of friends in places that I can kind of pick on if I need to be. 

“I’m not one who bothers a lot of people, to be honest. But he’s certainly there if ever I need him.”

Carrick led United to an excellent 2-0 win against City last weekend, thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu.   

The Red Devils dominated the Old Trafford encounter and had three goals disallowed for offside. 

Carrick will hope to continue their momentum against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. 

The Gunners are the top favourites for the Premier League title this season, and they are currently 15 points above United in the table. 

Mikel Arteta’s side are unbeaten in all 16 of their home matches this campaign, winning 14 and drawing two. 

But if Carrick’s men produce the same intensity they did against City, they could come away with maximum points from London.
