Former Manchester United players Michael Carrick, Wes Brown, and Phil Jones have decided to do their part in uplifting the youth through a meaningful initiative.
This will be a welcome development for supporters who are concerned about assisting those in need, particularly after INEOS sent mixed signals regarding their support for the Manchester United Foundation.
Confusion hits
In December last year, The Peoples Person relayed that INEOS was considering a funding cut for the MU Foundation, which was expected to amount to £1 million for the year.
Fast forward to October, and it seemed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his team were ready to promote the foundation in other ways.
Man United manager Ruben Amorim and his players became involved in the Man United Foundation, meeting with fans living with serious illnesses.
Now, it seems that even former players are ready to play their role in giving back to the community.
Carrick, Brown, and Jones play their part
“Former United players Michael Carrick, Wes Brown and Phil Jones were among 120 participants in the annual ‘sleep out’ at Old Trafford, which raised £30,000 for the club’s foundation and the work it does to support vulnerable young people, many of whom have experienced poverty and homelessness,” the Daily Mail reported.
Prior to the sleep out, Carrick participated in a Q&A session in which he explained: “Going through this experience, knowing it’s what some people have to go through every night, is very sad to know and understand.”
“But in these surroundings with over 100 people coming to sleep, it’s a night I’ll remember for a long time, and it’s vital to raise these funds and awareness so the foundation can do its best work,” Carrick continued.
While INEOS has aired seemingly contradictory views of the Man United Foundation, it is encouraging to see that positive actions are being taken to assist the charity by members of the club, as well as former players.
