Michael Chopra, 42, has returned to football by joining Cymru South side Trethomas Bluebirds. The club confirmed the signing and called it a major addition.
He has been out of competitive action for four years and last appeared for West Allotment Celtic in 2022. Chopra will continue his career in the second tier of Welsh football.
Trethomas finished 13th in Cymru South last season and are seeking reinforcements before the new campaign. The former Premier League and EFL forward adds pedigree to Paul Evans' squad.
Chopra came through at Newcastle United and later had spells with several clubs, though he is perhaps best remembered at Cardiff City. Across four stints with the Bluebirds he scored 63 goals, becoming a popular figure in South Wales.
He first joined Cardiff from Newcastle in 2006 and made an immediate impact, scoring 22 goals and supplying 12 assists in his debut season. That form earned a £five million move to Sunderland in 2007, where he scored eight goals in 42 appearances.
He later represented Ipswich Town, Blackpool, Kerala Blasters, Alloa Athletic and others during a career that also took him to India and Scotland. His arrival comes as Trethomas prepare for a third season at this level.
