Liverpool are in major talks as Michael Edwards looks to finally sign a player after five years.

Michael Edwards may not be Liverpool's sporting director any more but he's still among those running the show at Anfield. We've seen that with the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak - two players he tried to sign way back when.

And now it appears there's another one who could arrive. Edwards attempted to sign Eduardo Camavinga back in 2020 as the player prepared to leave Rennes.

Camavinga's contract was expiring and everyone knew he's move on, but it wasn't entirely clear where that would be. Real Madrid, though, muscled their way into the race and signed the player.

The Frenchman has had a strange time over the last five years. He's clearly incredibly talented but hasn't entirely nailed down a place at the club, with virtually every transfer window bringing about some sort of talk around a sale.

That has now happened once again. Sport claim that Real Madrid actively want to sell Camavinga this summer as they attempt to bring in funds for a new midfielder.

Now, the player himself isn't keen on a move and will fight this one. Real Madrid, though, plainly want to replace him and it's thought that Camavinga will simply have to accept that.

Liverpool hope he does. They're named in the report as having asked about the player already, kickstarting potential talks that could see them land Camavinga after a near six-year wait.

The Reds could certainly use him. They lacked a defensive-minded midfielder last season and missed it badly. Camavinga would solve that problem and at just 23, offers a long-term solution to the problem.

This is one to watch for the summer, then. Liverpool have had the midfielder on their agenda for a long, long time. Now may be the chance to get him.
