Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer to finally get what Michael Edwards wants.

The FSG chief is not giving up on his mission to break into the South American market.

We've seen so many players being linked with the Reds from the continent during Edwards' time at the club. Some have been very close to coming to fruition as well.

Liverpool almost managed to convince Rodrygo to sign for the club back when he was at Santos. The Reds also had a strong interest in Fluminense's Andre, and could have signed him in the summer of 2023.

Joao Gomes was another one Liverpool looked at before he joined Wolverhampton.

The list could go on and on.

The fact of the matter is that Liverpool simply haven't taken advantage of the post-Brexit rules which have made it easier for South American players of a certain criteria to acquire work-permits.

But that could be about to change. According to a recent report from Brazil, the Reds are expected to make an offer for Brazilian teenage star Gabriel Mec, who plays for Gremio.

They'll present Gremio a bid of around €15m and it will likely be accepted according to the report.

That's a massive development. We've never been at the stage of an offer from Liverpool being accepted for a Brazilian or South American player.

It feels like for the first time in the Edwards era, we could finally be looking at a signing from South America.

So, what about Mec? Who is he? And what kind of player would Liverpool be signing.

Mec is a small player with very quick feet. He can play as a left-winger but he can also be used as an attacking midfielder. He's a good and high volume dribbler.

He loves to take players on and he's got brilliant technique that makes him very eye-catching to watch.

So, far he has only made two senior appearances for Gremio, so he's not the most experienced player.

As we said above he's not the tallest and physically he could definitely improve and become a lot stronger, especially if he were to come to England.

But he does have exciting potential.

The technique that he possess and those dribbling attributes cannot be taught. He's also an excellent runner and covers a lot of ground.

In terms of profile he's the type of player who loves to cut in from the left. A bit like Florian Wirtz. It's why he would make a lot of sense as a no.10 or potentially as a left-forward in Liverpool's system.

Obviously, signing him would be one for the future. Mec isn't someone who is going to hit the ground running straight away.

For now as per FIFA rules he's not even eligible to move to England until he celebrates his 18th birthday. That won't be until April, which means the closest window he could move in is the summer 2026 one.

At that point, it would not be a surprise to see him end-up at Liverpool. Based on the above report, it's entirely possible the Reds agree a fee with Gremio now in January ahead of a summer 2026 move.

Mec seems like an ideal profile to bring in and work on him.

Whether they do that by sending him on loan or getting him to play U21 football to acclimatise to the English game is up to Liverpool.
