Michael Olise struck a hat-trick in his most complete display for France, a week out from the World Cup. Le Progres notes that Kylian Mbappé was wasteful and Ousmane Dembélé struggled to find his place against Northern Ireland.

Olise opened the scoring on 43 minutes, then doubled the lead on 49 after Malo Gusto’s first foray following his half-time introduction. Northern Ireland replied on 64 with their only effort on target beating Mike Maignan from close range, before Olise sealed it with a splendid third on 75.

Dayot Upamecano passed forward with purpose, his long ball preceding the first goal, though he was at fault defensively for the one conceded. William Saliba, assured early on and outstanding with a last-ditch tackle at 0-0, made way at half-time for Maxence Lacroix, who later went close. Jules Koundé also departed at the break, with Gusto’s immediate burst creating France’s second.

T. Hernandez’s forward bursts caused damage, with Rabiot covering behind him, before Digne took over on 62. Tchouameni hit the post from distance.

Dembélé was moved inside to mirror his PSG duties but his influence remained limited, with Cherki introduced on 62 and found more often between the lines. Doué largely played with clarity, his run in behind key to the opener, then Barcola came on at 62. Mbappé’s finishing was below par and he ends this preparation without a goal, needing to lift it in the United States, while Bayern Munich’s Olise was simply outstanding.
